Nomination of Janet Chase
By Tom Burroughs
It is with great pleasure that we present Janet Chase for nomination into the Brittany Field Trial Hall of Fame. Is there any doubt that Janet has exemplified the high standards of service, dedication to our breed, patronage, and contribution to the sport of field trialing?
Janet met her husband Jim while they were both graduate students at Oklahoma State University. After a few company moves, they bought a home in Deerfield, Illinois. Janet, a CPA was a partner in an accounting firm later acquired by American Express. When both Jim and Janet retired they moved to Red Bud, Illinois where they now reside.
At the national level Janet has been the treasurer of the American Brittany club for twenty-five years. She has used her profession as a CPA to enable the finances of the Brittany parent club to be managed effectively. Janet has also held offices in regional Brittany clubs and Championship organizations. She is a member of the Illinois Brittany Club, The LaSalle Brittany Club, The Prairie State Brittany Championship Association and the Illinois Brittany Championship Association. Janet and Jim initiated the Illinois Walking trial as a fund raiser to support Brittany Championships. It is more than just a field trial fund raiser. It has gotten to be known as a fun time and open for newcomers to run their dogs in a welcoming atmosphere. Charcoal roasted turkey is the standard fare.
If a dog wagon driver is needed, Janet will step up. Her love of Brittanys is shown by her dedication to “Road Guarding” and being at crossings to see that all get across safely. Janet helps wherever needed, in the field or in the kitchen.
Janet has co-owned with her husband Jim the National Open All Age Champion Rimarda’s Gambler, Brittany Field Trial Hall of Fame and ABC Hall of Fame FC/AFC Rimarda’s Trademark and, beginning in nineteen seventy nine with FC/AFC Misty JJ, nine other field champions. Janet enjoys riding her horse to watch her dogs and as many braces as her other support roles at the trial will allow. She has also judged trials and handled dogs in trials.
As a patron of the sport, Janet is recognized as “ Founder “ for the generous contribution she and Jim made to the Bird Dog Foundation.
There is no doubt that Janet Chase deserves to be honored as a member of The Brittany Field Trial Hall of Fame.
