DC/AFC The Whiz Kid
Several years ago, my friend Leland Dye, on a recommendation from Al Gorrow and Warren Montgomery, purchased an adult dog, from James Doherty. I hope that in years to come I can write a recommendation for this dog’s induction into the BFTHOF. DC/RU NFC Hi Proof Whizki (coming 10 yr. old) has distinguished himself as a true All Age Dog, among his other qualities. But after attending trials in the Mid West, I began to see other dogs and bitches that exhibited the same style, temperament and class as Whizki. Among them are Bruce Heiter’s , FC/AFC Git-R-Dun and FC/AFC Shady’s Count Kid, Kevin Stonehouse’s FC Countess Mon Petiite Whiz, Jeff Hoskin’s FC Sniksoh Ima Pepper and Les Casselberry’s DC/ 2XNAGDC/AFC Calistar Del Prado.
What they all have in common is that their Sire was Clem and Marilynne Little’s DC/AFC The Whiz Kid. He was bred by Bob and Joan Donnell and whelped on 3/03/93. He passed away at age 16 on 2/10/09 (you’ve got to love those genes). His sire was NFC/FC/AFC and BFTHOF/ABC HOF Hi Proof Rum Runner. His Dam was DC Chikamin’s Chiklet. He was ably handled in Open competition by Dave Walker and by Marilynne in the Amateur stakes. Marilynne and Clem scouted him throughout his career.
I should think that his production record of 19 DC/FC/AFC (and a 2X NAGDC), 5 CH and a number of Hunt Test qualifiers, would be enough to set him up as one of the best in ABC history. Whiz has also been the Grand Sire of a number of youngsters, thus far, that account for a NFC, 4 DC, 3 FC, 3 AFC, a R/U CH at the Victoria Nationale, 2 Futurity winners and 2 CH and……still counting.
But production records are only a part of the reason why The Whiz Kid deserves your support for induction in Grand Junction. Whiz had a limited placement record as a juvenile. But after placing 4th in the Western Futurity (40 starters), he came back to win the 1995 Futurity Run-Off (23 starters) with no Runner Up named. After his Derby season he didn’t disappoint in adult competition. He finished, at 3 ½, his FC in just his second outing defeating 24 dogs at the Oregon BC OAA Stake. He continued his winning ways until he was retired, due to bone spurs, at age 9 in 2002. During his 7 years of active competition he ran only in the AA stakes. In his last trial he placed 3rd in Idaho in the OAA.
In Conformation, he finished his DC while coming directly from a win in an OAA stake to the Bench at Pocatello, ID KC . He also was awarded a 1st at the Washington BC Show in 2003 in a Non Regular, Veteran Class. I’m to understand that that his handler had a huge smile and a big tear on her cheek that day. He is Dual Brittany #395.
My research, hopefully accounts for all the available data. But in talking with those that saw, handled and judged him in the field, the common thread that emerges is that Whiz was a bold, consistent, dependable and outstanding bird finder on every upland game bird, both released and wild. With All Age range, manners, class, style and above all a disposition that made him a welcome guest wherever he stayed, not one person I spoke with could have been less than supportive for his induction. Everyone of his get that I’ve been around have demonstrated to me a mannerly, happy, gentle personality with an eagerness to please along with a focus on finding birds.
DC/AFC The Whiz Kid’s overall competitive record is most deserving of your consideration.
o -55 Placement with 18 firsts, 12 major wins, 4 Championship Placements.
o -Qualified for the ABC AA National Championships 6 times.
o -1995 Futurity Run-Off Winner
Please add your support to nominated DC/AFC The Whiz Kid to the BFTHF,
